The Science Service for Biodiversity (SSBD) is the scientific pillar of the European biodiversity science-policy-society interface. The goal of the Science Service is to provide different models and services to improve the interaction between policy-makers and knowledge holders. The Science Service is a new initiative in the science-policy interface, comprising not only a website but also various operational activities.

The Science Service aims to be accessible to the European Commission, its member states, civil society actors, organisations and private companies.
Who is developing the Science Service for Biodiversity?
The Science Service for Biodiversity is being developed by BioAgora: a project funded by the Horizon Europe programme, involving €11.8 million investment between 2022 to 2027. The project consortium, comprising 22 partners from 13 countries.
Why is this important?
Biodiversity loss threatens the health of our planet and consequently, our well-being. Unlike climate change, biodiversity loss may not directly affect individuals' lives, making it challenging to perceive its importance. However, safeguarding biodiversity is as crucial as mitigating climate change, requiring nuanced approaches beyond technical solutions.
While there are existing platforms in the science-policy interface, the unique role of the Science Service for Biodiversity is to bring together existing actors and expertise, orchestrating connections between these and maximising their positive impact.
